NC Bike Summit 2014 and Positive Energy
Hello everyone! Three represented Salisbury among a hundred or so people at UNCG ,this past weekend, for the 3rd annual NC Bicycle Summit. This is a three day event that consists of seminars and breakout sessions packed full of useful information for bicycle advocates, transportation planners, business owners, elected officials, tactical urbanists, public health practitioners, and livability and sustainability professionals. Experts from across the state and beyond share their knowledge and experience on such topics as:
- Innovative Outreach & Planning Techniques
- The Value of Public-Private Partnerships
- How to Partner with Businesses
We networked with a lot of like-minded and important people and came back with a lot of ideas on how to improve the safety, economy and sustainability of our community through various types of events and concepts. The overall idea is to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles in our downtown areas while increasing economic activity. While many of the concepts are little more involved and take a little time and planning there are some things that can be put into practice easily and immediately. In the coming months we will continue working with local governments, steering committees, business owners and educational institutions to build momentum for a better and more bicycle and pedestrian friendly Salisbury.
Stay tuned! We will be sharing more information gathered from the summit on how you can be involved.
